Too cool. Three on topic posts in a row.

Sambo's is an Oregon coast landmark. It's been in Lincoln city
longer than any other restaurant there. Its distinctive sign is easy to
spot and hard to miss. I haven't been in there in several years simply
because I don't usually stop there because I usually don't go through
there and when I do I'm probably headed somewhere else. I have taken my
wife there a time or two because it is a landmark and their breakfast
has always be excellent. My only complaint is that the restaurant can be
too busy at times. So the headline surprised me. If it really closes I
don't expect that it will be closed long. I wouldn't be surprised if it
opens with a new name and a new sign.

Despite the name and its racist origins, the 65-year-old diner has long
been popular with tourists and locals."

Originally it had been Lil' Black Sambo's. There is a picture of
their current sign. Sambo has gone missing. He was holding up the umbrella.

Circa 1953 we had a little terrier mix named Sambo. One of the first books I read all the way through was "The Story of Little Black Sambo." I especially loved the illustration of the tiger with umbrella tied in his tail, but found it sad all the tigers
ended up as butter for Sambo's pancakes. Life can be so cruel.

    Enjoy the day,

"Despite the name and its racist origins...". It's the PNW, there's

Whoever it is, they look brown to me. The paintings on the windows
change with the seasons. In most towns of any size there are always
people who would like to paint business's windows for a very reasonable
price. Some of them even have a bit of artistic talent.

Alrighty then. It's Lil' Brown Sambo's......ummmm.......is it a
Mexican restaurant? Or do we have another inappropriate cultural
appropriation situation here - and another possible "racist origin"?
And what's with the blue underpants on the tiger?

C'mon, man. Here's the deal - expiring minds want to know. No joke.

As is often the case we have reached the point where I have no
answers or interest. If you really need to know I'd suggest that you
call them up and ask. Over the years my impression has always been that
the people working there are genuinely try to be nice people. So, they
would probably be willing to help you out, if you ask nicely.

    Of course you have.

At the end of the day going forward, I don't literally need to know. I
