He reminds me a lot of Henry Ford, who also didn't invent
anything, but couldn't resist dabbling in all sorts of things, including
social engineering. Remember square dancing? We got a fair dose of it in
our public schools.

Ford had a solution: square dancing. He saw jazz and its related dancing
styles as a force for moral decay, and sought to cure it by bringing
back traditional folk dances. In doing so, Ford rewrote the cultural
history of the dance form and set the stage for a pantheon of racist
ideas that still animate modern white supremacist movements.
Most Americans rightly think of jazz as an African-American art form.
But Ford, the only American personally praised by in Adolf Hitler in
Mein Kampf, saw jazz dancing as part of a conspiracy to throw America
into a dark age.
Ford sparked a national movement in the by pouring a small fortune into revitalizing square dancing in the 1920’s, decades after it was
abandoned by American pop culture. He funded radio shows and dance clubs
and invited hundreds of dance instructors to his home. Thirty-four
colleges added “early American dancing” to their curricula."

future using a fable about an America that never existed."

And it's still right up to date. Hell, Ford could have been a
great retrumplican, if he lived long enough. lol We have always had a
lot of rich guys who couldn't resist meddling with all sorts of stuff.
Our "founding fathers" are a prime example.
Elon loves to troll. It's really his biggest sales tool. No matter
what he says he probably gains more customers than he loses. Or at least
that's his most likely calculation. I doubt that he runs much of
anything, except for his mouth and the people who run his companies.
Right now he probably has his hands full figuring out what he's going to
do with Twitter. I'm looking forward to it. It isn't likely to end well,
but the most likely losers are the people he sells it to. He's a great salesman.
There's a lot of competition for attention, so the big time trolls
keep turning up the crazy. I don't expect any of them to have a sudden
attack of sanity.
