• My electric bill

From Technobarbarian@21:1/5 to All on Wed Aug 24 16:21:38 2022
I got my first full month report on time of day pricing for my electricity. My "on peak" usage was up from last month. This month it
was 16% of my total usage. I'm not surprised. It has been unusually hot
here lately, so I've been running the A/C a lot. The power company said
my experiment cost me $2 over what I would have paid at the regular
rate. I can live with that. Based on my usage last year I expect most of
the savings to happen during cooler weather.

You make it too easy. I prefer more of a challenge so… I won’t remind people that you saved $8.7 mil on your electric bill.

I got my latest statement from the power company. By using time of
day pricing I broke even last month. The month before that it cost me
$4. I'm still about $10 ahead so far. So, I'm not worried. If I started
using more electricity during off-peak times I would "save" money from
the power company's point of view, while my bill was going up. Holidays
and Sundays I'm only paying about 5 cents a kilowatt hour. OTOH my
dreams of saving enough to pay for a weekend on the coast have turned
into dust. Oh well, that isn't going to stop us.

I hope everyone has happy holidays and good traveling. I don't
expect to be on the road much again until Christmas and New Years.

That $8.7 mil sure evaporated in a hurry.

I'm sitting here in the middle of a widespread ice storm that
started early last night. I have the electric heat on high. And I just
got my latest report from the electric company. I'm sure everyone will
be happy to hear that I'm an Energy Super Star again. Using time of day
pricing I saved $8 last month. I think that puts me 15 or 16 bucks ahead
since I changed to time of day pricing. From the information I got from
the power company I had expected my biggest savings to be during the
Winter. Who knows? At this rate, over the course of a year, we might
save enough to pay for a nice dinner someone else cooked.

The weather is supposed to get worse before it gets better, but
sometime early tomorrow we will be above freezing again and the rain
will wash it all away like it never happened. It looks like it's
reasonable to hope for nice ordinary rain storms the next time we're on
    the coast.

I'm about to grill steaks tonight in a wind chill of about 20.
Probably take longer than usual, but my Kraken is unlikely to turn
into a slushie. At least it's not raining, too - I'm kinda postal
serviceish when it comes to grilling, but I have my limits, and 20deg/10mph/rain would be one of them.

Lucky you. 3 foot snowdrifts here with a 1/4 inch of ice on top. But -
good news - it's starting to rain and the wind has dropped below 20 mph.

And, yes. Satellite internet is great! No outages!

Good thing you don't live in Texas.

Texas power prices spike more than 400% in one day as bomb cyclone sends
