    Head down to the waterfront this Saturday for a fanciful celebration of Portland’s connection to its rivers. The free, family-friendly,
    inclusive and body positive event will include a parade, a splash mob
    dance party, the crowning of the Grand Marshal, and guest speakers. The
    parade also sheds light on the culture of professional mermaid
    entertainers who “help bring the magic, mythology, of water myths to
    people everywhere,” according to the website.

    Noon-2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 30, beginning at Poets Beach, on the west

    Oregon’s summertime convention of pop culture, cosplay, anime, gaming
    and everything geeky is this weekend at the Hilton Hotel downtown. Rub
    elbows with featured celebrity guests, including Zach Aguilar who voices
    a long list of game and anime characters, as well as local artists,
    exhibitors and others. There’s also rows of vendors, guest panels, and chances to meet up with other fans. All ages welcome during daytime
    hours, adults only events begin at 8 p.m.

    Doors open at 9 a.m. Saturday-Sunday, July 30-31, and events continue

    “Winnie the Pooh and Lao-Tzu Too”

    Masque Alfresco presents a free musical mash-up of songs celebrating
    Winnie the Pooh and his friends with Chinese Taoist folktales. Fayra
    Teeters directs a company of six actors in these family-friendly
    performances. Bring a lawn chair and your dinner for a family evening out.
