I'm at least as Republican as the orange outrage. Because I
served in Vietnam under both a Democratic and a Republican
administration I'm not particularly fond of either party. I have a few
more days to decide. I might become a Democrat again for a little
while. It would be my only chance to vote for our next Governor,
because it's unlikely that the Republicans will run a sane candidate
who has a chance of winning.

I trimmed things down a little.

It's near traditional that the Demo's were the party with the most Nutz,
but it appears the GOP took that as a challenge a few years back and
have been actively working to attract even "Nutier" candidates.
Our "local" example is the nut that won the GOP primary for Gov last
year. He never conceded and tried to argue that the election had been
stolen from him. Our State elections person was a GOP.
He was filing some lawsuits about it, but they got dropped when his
lawyers were threatened with scanctions by the courts.

Now he is running for Congress in a district he doesn't live in.

IF the GOP had ran someone sane I probably would have voted for them,
rather than that Carpet Bagger Inslee, who did NOT earn a third term.
I did vote in the GOP primary for the one that I thought was to most
    sane....

And then you want me to admit that inflation is out of control
when I ain't seenin' it. I filled up my tank today. The price was
several dollars less than what I paid last week. Get back to me when
you're living in the here and now on planet Earth.

Locally our gas prices have been flat for a month, they dropped a little
this week. But our prices peaked about 20 cent below Seattle a month ago.

I finally got around to taking a look at the contest here. I
think it's going to be a bit more interesting than I had expected. We've
got 15 candidates on the Democrat's side and 19 on the Republican's
side. And that's not even the most interesting part. It looks like we'll
also have a well funded Independent candidate.

"Nike co-founder Phil Knight is once again picking favorites in Oregon politics, this time in the highly competitive 2022 race for governor –
and putting up major money to back up his choice.

On Friday, records show Knight contributed $750,000 to the campaign of
former Democratic state Sen. Betsy Johnson, who has left the party to
run as an unaffiliated candidate. Combined with a previous $250,000
donation, Knight has now given $1 million to Johnson’s attempt to become
the first governor not associated with a political party in nearly a
    century.

The checks, coming seven months before Johnson would actually stand for election, signal that Knight is once again hoping to play a strong role
in helping his chosen candidate reach Oregon voters. That’s particularly
a necessity for Johnson, who won’t be able to appeal to voters purely
based on the political party next to her name.

While Knight has given to plenty of candidates and causes in Oregon over
the years, his financial support has typically been far lower than what
    he’s offered Johnson.

In 2010, Knight favored former Portland Trail Blazer Chris Dudley, a Republican, who lost the gubernatorial race by a razor-thin margin to
Democrat John Kitzhaber. Knight gave Dudley $400,000 in that contest
and, four years later, backed Kitzhaber’s re-election bid with a check
    for $250,000.

Knight dialed his political giving way up in 2018, when he contributed
$2.5 million to the campaign of then-Republican state Rep. Knute
Buehler, who was challenging Gov. Kate Brown. The heavy donations
spurred accusations that Knight was attempting to buy a Republican the governor’s mansion, but were not ultimately enough to help Buehler beat
the vulnerable Brown. Knight’s donations comprised 13% of Buehler’s fundraising in the race."

The fun part of the story is the guy the Republicans ran last
time. He's the sort of moderate Republican who earned the RINO title.
Except that he walked away from the whole party.

"Knute Buehler Left the Oregon Republican Party Because It Went Insane
Does this decision mean his career in politics is over?"

    "February 16, 2021 at 11:05 pm PST
Two years ago, state Rep. Knute Buehler was the standard bearer for
    Oregon’s Republican Party.

Now he wants out of it.

Earlier this month, Buehler made headlines by declaring he would change
his party registration from Republican to nonaffiliated. He said the
actions of former President Donald Trump in inciting the attack on the
Capitol were bad enough—but the last straw was the Oregon Republican
Party falsely claiming the insurrection was an inside job by anti-fascists.

Buehler, a Bend physician, ran two high-profile campaigns against Gov.
Kate Brown: first for Oregon secretary of state, then for governor. In
between, he served in the Oregon House. Last year, he made a bid for
U.S. Congress, but lost to Cliff Bentz in the Republican Primary.

    Now he's a man without a party."

Buehler has endorsed our independent candidate.

Another little number for a little sense of proportion.

"THAT’S A LOT OF SNEAKERS: Five years after donating $500 million to the University of Oregon, Nike’s former leader Phil Knight and his wife
Penny have donated $500 million more for the second phase of an
innovative scientific research campus named in their honor.

Before his sneaker-selling days, Phil Knight attended the University of
Oregon. It was there as a runner on the track team that he and his track
coach Bill Bowerman first discussed running shoes in 1958. Six years
later they started a company with shoes designed by Bowerman that would
become Nike in 1968. Knight retired as president, chairman and chief
executive officer of Nike Inc. in July 2016.

The Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact was officially unveiled in December and is led by executive director Robert Guldberg. The second gift of $500 million will be used for a second
building for research and innovation. The current plan is a
175,000-square-foot building that will focus on bioengineering and
applied science research. It will house new research facilities and
    flexible lab spaces."

That billion is only part of his donations to the University.
Among other things he has also donated generously to their athletic program.
