• Cross-dresser kills self

From bfh@21:1/5 to All on Mon Nov 6 00:41:23 2023
    ---------------------------------------------------
A small-town Alabama pastor and mayor killed himself Friday, days
after a local conservative news website published a story that
included photos of him wearing women’s clothing and makeup.

F.L. “Bubba” Copeland, who was the mayor of Smiths Station and the
pastor at First Baptist Church in Phenix City, shot himself in front
of police during a welfare check, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said. ------------------------------------------------- https://www.thedailybeast.com/alabama-mayor-bubba-copeland-kills-self-after-right-wing-1819-news-outs-his-cross-dressing

Killing himself seems a bit extreme to me. He shoulda just moved to
Portland, changed his name to Buffy, and run for mayor out there.

Yeah, Bubba is a bit of a misnomer, especially for the Garden of Oregon.

That's probably one stalk too many if you expect a statistically

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you aren't sympathetic to Bubba's fate, even though he's one of you. He was a retrumplican who had lived in GA for his entire life. This story must have struck a chord for a lot of people. Suicide is very
common for trans people, but this one made the national news.

I think it's pretty easy to understand what happened. Bubba obviously loved the life he had created for himself. I don't think he wanted to be Buffy or anyone else, anywhere else. I don't think he would have found small town life any better here
than anywhere else. Portland would have been a ridiculous choice for a retrumplican. We have plenty of hostility for people who don't conform to gender expectations here.

"The revelation quickly spiraled into a community-wide controversy, eliciting many empathetic and derogatory reactions. One of Copeland’s friends, former Phenix City School Superintendent Larry DiChiara, expressed his anguish and support for Copeland
on social media after the mayor’s death.

In a Facebook post, DiChiara wrote, “Please bare with me while I vent. I am so angry right now and heartbroken. I witnessed a good man be publicly ridiculed and crucified over the last few days…to the point that he just took his own life today.” He
revealed that he had reached out to Copeland offering “support and encouragement,” and Copeland had acknowledged going through some “dark days.

In a pointed message to those who ridiculed Copeland, DiChiara asked, “Are you happy now? What crime did he commit? Some of you people make me sick. I hope you are really proud.”

He ended his post with a prayer for Copeland: “For our brother, F.L. Bubba Copeland, May God bless your soul and forgive those who took pleasure in your suffering. They should all be ashamed!””

There is a difference, but Bubba managed to straddle the border between the two. We can say for sure that he was a crossdresser, but his fantasies were transexual. It sounds like he was transgendered to some extent, but he didn't want to live that
way. For the crossdressers I've met it's a way escaping their ordinary life--temporarily. It's just a costume party for them. They usually don't want to change their actual gender. Bubba obviously had some interest in this.

Not Georgia, it's Alabama. I would expect a polymath like yourself would
know the difference. At any rate, he would have been better off among
his own people in The Garden of Oregon. It is more Utopian than Utopia
ever was, according to you. By the way, do you think an American of
African descent could get in on that idyllic gravy train up there? My
electric bill has been increasing every month since January of 2021.

Back to the topic at hand, if a mature man would end his own life over a
choice he made of his own volition, think what will happen in several
years to all the children who grew up with this forced upon them by
ignorant, lunatic liberal parents. In your own words "Suicide is very

    years.

Having said that, I don't think it's anyone's business as long as he was
    not fomenting it among minors.

"Utopia" is your extreme interpretation of what I have said. It's very nice here, but I have never said this was utopia here or anything like that.

For a typical 2 bedroom home my electric bill generally runs from around $90 to $150 for everything, heating and all. You could probably do better on your electric bill here, regardless of race. Next year the cost of electricity here will probably
    go up 14%.

Being forced to be transgendered is likely to be uncommon here. If you want any sort of medical treatment here you have to go through extensive psychological screening. It isn't enough to think you're trans. You have to convince the psychologists
that you are trans. In addition, before you can get any surgery done you have to live as your chosen gender for a year. As a result, in this country, the people who end up regretting having surgery done is around 1%. It's much more likely that parents
insist that their child is not trans. We have a friend here whose father would not speak to her for several years after she came out. He didn't even want to see her in the small town where she grew up. He did eventually reconcile with her. This was
probably caused because he had been told he was dying. It turned out that her father is a deeply closeted gay man.

Having said that, I don't think it's anyone's business as long as he was
    not fomenting it among minors.

There are a lot of people who think it is their business. That is one of the many reasons why it isn't easy to be transgendered.

Killing himself seems a bit extreme to me. He shoulda just moved to
Portland, changed his name to Buffy, and run for mayor out
    there.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you aren't sympathetic to
Bubba's fate, even though he's one of you. He was a retrumplican
who had lived in GA for his entire life. This story must have
struck a chord for a lot of people. Suicide is very common for
trans people, but this one made the national news.
The article - and others - call him a cross dresser, not trans. What
was he, and what's the difference? I thought there was a difference.

    TB
Not Georgia, it's Alabama. I would expect a polymath like yourself would
know the difference. At any rate, he would have been better off among
his own people in The Garden of Oregon. It is more Utopian than Utopia
ever was, according to you. By the way, do you think an American of
African descent could get in on that idyllic gravy train up there? My
electric bill has been increasing every month since January of 2021.

Next year the cost of electricity here will
    probably go up 14%.

Back to the topic at hand, if a mature man would end his own life over a
choice he made of his own volition, think what will happen in several
years to all the children who grew up with this forced upon them by
ignorant, lunatic liberal parents. In your own words "Suicide is very
common for trans people". It's liable to increase exponentially in a few
    years.

Being forced to be transgendered is likely to be uncommon here. If you want any sort of medical treatment here you have to go through extensive psychological screening. It isn't enough to think you're trans. You have to convince the
psychologists that you are trans. In addition, before you can get any surgery done you have to live as your chosen gender for a year. As a result, in this country, the people who end up regretting having surgery done is around 1%. It's much more likely
that parents insist that their child is not trans. We have a friend here whose father would not speak to her for several years after she came out. He didn't even want to see her in the small town where she grew up. He did eventually reconcile with her.
This was probably caused because he had been told he was dying. It turned out that her father is a deeply closeted gay man.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8099405/

Having said that, I don't think it's anyone's business as long as he was
    not fomenting it among minors.

There are a lot of people who think it is their business. That is one of the many reasons why it isn't easy to be transgendered.

    TB

Same goes for Christians and Jews. A lot of people think it's their
    business.

No mention of people who don't conform to gender norms goes through here without you going on about people abusing children, while most of the problem centers on family members and authority figures. The Southern Baptists are struggling with a
conflict between the rules of law and the rules of God. Apparently, trying to do the Christian thing for their victims is too expensive for them.

"Why Southern Baptists are Furious Over a Sex Abuse Case in Kentucky
A brief filed in a Kentucky case has infuriated members of the denomination across the country, just as it grapples with an abuse scandal."

"For six months, almost no one took notice of the brief filed quietly by Southern Baptists in a case winding its way to the Kentucky Supreme Court.

At the center of the case is a woman whose father, a police officer, was convicted in 2020 of sexually abusing her over a period of years when she was a child. The woman later sued several parties, including the Louisville Police Department, saying they
knew about the abuse and had a duty to report it. Now, the state’s highest court is considering whether sex abuse victims can have more time to sue “non-perpetrators” — institutions or their leaders that are obligated to protect children from
    such abuse.

None of it appeared to have anything to do with the Southern Baptist Convention, the nation’s largest Protestant denomination. But in April, lawyers representing the denomination filed an amicus brief opposing expansion of the statute of limitations
for lawsuits against third parties, including religious institutions.

The brief, reported by The Louisville Courier-Journal in October, landed like a bombshell in Southern Baptist circles. The organization has spent the last several years grappling with revelations that its national leaders suppressed reports of abuse and
resisted reform for decades. The brief, abuse survivors and those critical of the church say, offers the first clear look at the church’s true position on whether its leaders can be held accountable for abuse.

It has led to a flurry of blistering reactions and efforts by S.B.C. leaders to distance themselves from the brief, which they characterize as a decision driven by lawyers. The brief says that the denomination has a “strong interest in the statute-of-
limitations issue” in the case, and argues that a 2021 state law allowing abuse victims to sue third-party “non-perpetrators” was not intended to be applied retroactively.

“I’ve never seen such unmitigated and justified anger among Southern Baptists,” said Russell Moore, the former head of the denomination’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, who is now the editor in chief of Christianity Today.

The brief has disrupted continuing reform efforts in the denomination, which have gained momentum since an investigation by The Houston Chronicle and The San Antonio Express-News in 2019 revealed that hundreds of Southern Baptist leaders had pleaded
guilty or had been convicted of sex crimes in recent decades.

Since then, the denomination has passed a resolution calling abuse both a sin and a crime, commissioned and published a third-party investigation into its handling of abuse and pledged to create a searchable database of people who have been credibly
accused of abuse in Southern Baptist settings.

The denomination’s president, Bart Barber, who has supported abuse reforms, said in a statement that he takes “full responsibility” for the denomination joining the brief. He said he was asked for approval by the S.B.C.’s legal team and regrets
not giving it the attention he should have. “I know that my credibility with you is harmed by this, perhaps irreparably,” he wrote in an open statement to Southern Baptists.

Yet, in that same statement, he said he is undecided on the matter. “I am not sure exactly what I think about statutes of limitation. I think they are a mixed bag,” he wrote. “I am uncomfortable with the harm statutes of limitations can do, but I
also think that they play a valid role in the law sometimes.”"
