• The Great Bird Renaming

They're starting with birds, but where does it end? Anna's hummingbird and Steller's Jay face virtual extinction, but nobody seems to know what will replace them. Worse still, all of my bird books will soon be obsolete. But take Steller for
example. He put his name on a lot of stuff and it will remain in the scientific name. The rest of biology and the sciences can't be far behind in the move to make names politically correct. It's only a matter of time before the Steller's sea lion
    completely disappears.

    Steller's eider (Polysticta stelleri)
    Steller's jay (Cyanocitta stelleri)
    Sea otter (Enhydra lutris)
    Steller's sea eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus)
    Short-tailed albatross
    Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas)
    Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus)
    Steller's sculpin
    Gumboot chiton (Cryptochiton stelleri)
    Hoary mugwort (Artemisia stelleriana)
    Stellera L. (Thymelaeaceae)
Stellerite (a mineral in the zeolite group)
    Restella Pobed. (Thymelaeaceae[9])

"Dozens of birds, including ones named after white supremacists , are being renamed"

"Dozens of bird species in the United States and Canada will get "imaginative" new names that reflect their traits and habitats rather than the names of people, the American Ornithological Society announced Wednesday.

The society plans to remove all human names from the common names for birds within its jurisdiction, to create a more inclusive environment for people of diverse backgrounds interested in bird-watching and ornithology. The public process, yet to be fully
defined, will include 70 to 80 birds in the U.S. and Canada, the society stated."

I didn't know there was an official jurisdiction for bird names.
