• Help Wanted

From Technobarbarian@21:1/5 to All on Wed Oct 18 17:04:52 2023
I would seriously like some help. I'm looking for a politically correct word or term to describe the sort of stereotypical shucking and jiving, like you would see in a classic Amos and Andy show. Now, personally, I prefer something straight out
and blunt. But, you know how some people are. They're opposed to political correctness until it's their ass that's being incorrect. They're sensitive.

My googles skills have failed me. Take this for example:

    https://www.thesaurus.com/browse/shucking%20and%20jive

There's a lot of stuff that's close there, but nothing that really captures the whole idea. So, I might even settle for a word or a phrase that's a little more polite, or something, even if it is less descriptive.

    Thanks, in advance.

From that great oracle aka Google:
To "pettifog" is, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, "to quibble over insignificant details" or "engage in legal chicanery". The verb was actually formed from the noun "pettifogger", which was used in the 16th Century to describe those who
would argue over minor details in a fee.

I think "pettifoggery" has a pleasant ring to it and nicely describes most of what passes for discourse on RORT.

Thanks, that's helpful and it fits. Unfortunately I don't think pettifog will work for me. When I look at that word I realize it's much too polite for me. I need something with some verbal impact and pettifog lands like a feather. I don't want to
pretend that I have any respect for the idiot and his constant demands that I post to please him.

Ah, we need the easy facility of coining new compound words afforded by the German language. I'm sure the exact word you seek can be found in a German dictionary or could be easily constructed by a native speaker. In the meantime, maybe a portmanteau
such as "cankerblossum" from Shakespeare could stir you imagination. It doesn't have the flavor of "lackwit" you're searching for, but you catch my drift.

I think I have solved my problem. My main problem with the phrase "shuckin' and jivin'" *is* that it isn't politically correct. With our jive ass troll I don't give a shit because he's opposed to "political correctness". I don't think anyone has
a monopoly on shucking and jiving. In this instance it's a apt description. But, if you take it that way, it can make it look like my problem with the idiot could be connected to the color of his skin. I'm making this much too difficult. I need to go to
real plain English. He's not just dumb. He's deliberately dumb and obtuse. He has turned it into a dance and repeats the same steps over and over. He's our deliberately dumb and obtuse ballerina. Or something like that. Who knows where I will land
    tomorrow. Lickspittle still works too.

I'm more partial to "lackwit" or "addlepate," just because they seem to more clearly denote muddled or confused thinking. But "lickspittle" is definitely a good choice, as well.

    Perfect descriptors of liberals.

I continue to believe that "dumbass" is uniquely more perfect. However
comma I will accept "dumb*ss" as a substitute.

Is it okay to conflate two or more? Like dumbass lackwit or dumbass muddled and confused lickspittle.

I guess it's okay - I don't think redundancy is an indictable offense.

I need to go to real plain English. He's not just dumb. He's
