You could do worse. The unemployment rate here is running 3.4%, which is a little below the national 3.8%. "US Inflation Rate is at 3.67%, compared to 3.18% last month and 8.26% last year." This time last year you were raving about "runaway"
inflation. The high temperature today was 85 degrees and it's supposed to be 84 tomorrow. And to top it all off, I'm headed to the coast soon for a few days of crabbing and relaxation.

"Oregon has 360 miles of coastline - that’s 360 miles of crabbing and clamming opportunity! Digging for razor or bay clams is a simple and affordable activity that can include the whole family. Dropping crab pots for Dungeness or red rock crab is often
done by boat, but crabbing from a dock can be successful too. Many marinas and stores on the coast rent crab pots, and even small boats for crabbing in the bays."

Questions, what did you and your liberal ilk (or any conservatives that
may be left in Oregon) do to build this magnificent 360 miles of coast
line? Put the crabs in the ocean and the clams in the mud? To quote your favorite president, "you didn't build that". You just had the good
fortune or misfortune to live there.

By the way, some of the best fresh and salt water fishing in this
country is along the gulf coast. Also shrimping and crabbing. Also,
wildlife are plentiful. Almost every species of bird in this country can
be seen at times along the gulf coast. Much to your dismay, Oregon is
    not unique in outdoor activities.

LOL. I love it. You must live under a very dark donut shaped cloud. The sun is shining where you're at, but, but all around you it's doom and gloom--for decades now. While, across your entire lifetime--mostly due to science and population growth-
-even when you adjust for inflation, on average Americans just keep getting richer. Except for my health and the insane political atmosphere, my life just keeps getting better. And I'm not doing all that bad physically.

I can even break down the math, so that there's some hope even a dummy might understand it. When I first started driving it took me about an hour to make enough money for 3 gallons of gas. Today it takes me significantly less time to make enough
money for 3 gallons of gas, and I'm putting that gas into a much better machine.

I looked at crabbing in TX. The operative phrase here is "for their size". I can't legally keep most of the crabs you guys are eating because they are too small. Around here most folks won't bother with crabs that small because you don't get much
meat. But hey, you can keep as many of those little guys as you like as long as they're at least, lol, 5 inches across. Here I can only keep 10/day.

    "Why does size matter?

The size of the crab can influence several factors including the meat yield, taste, texture, preparation and meatier bite, whereas smaller crabs have less meat and are sweeter in flavor. Dungeness crab are larger than blue crab, making the meat richer
    and more flavorful.

How can I spot dungy and blue crab?

Dungeness crabs have a distinctive appearance with a wide, rounded body and reddish-brown color. They are known for their large, meaty claws and legs. Blue crabs are aptly named due to their blue coloration, especially on their claws and legs. They have
a more oval-shaped body with blue and green hues.

    Which crab tastes better?

Dungeness Crab and Blue Crab each have a unique taste and texture. Dungeness crab meat is known for its sweet, delicate flavor with a slightly nutty undertone. The meat is often described as tender, flaky, and succulent. Whereas, blue crab meat has a
sweet flavor but a brinier taste.

Dungeness Crab is most often the crowd favorite for the depth of its flavor, tenderness of its meat, and its appearance and reputation as a delicacy.

What recipes are best for Dungeness and Blue Crab?

Dungeness crab is often preferred for its large, easily accessible meat. This is why it is commonly served whole or as crab meat in dishes like crab cakes, crab salads, and crab bisque. Since they are smaller, blue crab is typically used in smaller
quantities. Blue crab is popular in various regional dishes, such as Maryland-style crab cakes and gumbo. It is also used in crab boils and as a topping for sushi rolls.

    When is it available?

Blue crab harvesting season starts in spring and goes through late fall and Dungeness crab season spans from December to August, depending on the location.

Despite a shorter season, Premier Catch makes it easy to enjoy Dungeness crab year round by cleaning, cooking and freezing our crab soon after it’s caught. This ensures that it is at its highest quality and maximum purity and taste when it reaches our
customers. We also specially process our Dungeness crab into “Snap-N-Eats”, which is a custom process that includes individually scoring each section of the leg, making it very easy to simply “snap and eat”. Our Dungeness crab can simply be
defrosted and served cold, or they can be steamed, boiled, or baked and served warm, or incorporated into your favorite crab recipe.

We also offer the enjoyment of the sweet, succulent flavor of wild Dungeness crab without the hassle and mess in our meat only packs. Similar to our Dungeness Crab Snap-N-Eats, we clean, cook and then pick the meat out of the shell for you. We vacuum
seal the meat and freeze it for the ultimate treat all year round. A 1lb pack of Dungeness Crab Meat is perfect for use in crab cakes, salads, pastas, omelets and dips.

From their habitat, size, appearance, taste, and culinary applications, the difference between Dungeness and Blue crab is stark. At Premier Catch, we are committed to delivering sustainably sourced seafood of the highest quality which is why we love Wild
    Alaska Dungeness Crab!

I follow the regulations. One of the reasons our harvest here is sustainable is that we don't keep females and small males. This pretty much assures that we have as many females as the environment can support.

Yeah, It's something Oregonians can be proud of. I don't see much enforcement on the recreational side, but I see a lot of voluntary compliance. As long as the ocean is healthy we can keep harvesting at this level forever.

While Texans are caught in a sad cycle. You limit your harvest by eating the females. I assume you have to do that because otherwise it would be difficult to catch enough crabs to make a good sandwich.
