This Wednesday, September 14, 9--11:30 p.m., at Folk Night at
The Ship Pub in St. John's, Newfoundland, the headliners
will be The Old Blue String Band.
Cover is $5, there are door prizes, there is an open
mic set between the two headline sets, and open mic
performers get a free beer. Also the kitchen is open
until 8 p.m.
Here is the blurb from
https://www.facebook.com/nlfolk/events:
"The Old Blue String Band blends old-timey and bluegrass songs and tunes well seasoned with some updated classic songs for a tasty heaping helping of passion, pathos and pluck. The band brings together equally well-seasoned musicians Allan Byrne - guitar, vocals (the Byrne family dynasty; Blue Drop), Dave Rowe - mandolin, "bull" fiddle, vocals (the Rowe family dynasty; Crooked Stovepipe; numerous other bands; proprietor of O’Brien’s Music) and Scott Schillereff - clawhammer banjo, hammered dulcimer, vocals (steeped in Appalachian tradition; Tickle Harbour; Atlantic Union; and Newfoundlander by choice). Come and join us – it’s a great night for an evening!"
Next week (September 21) there will be acoustic blues from Roger Howse and on September 28 there will be a trad session hosted by fiddler Tatsu Oki.
