Turns out we're all wrong. A guy named Bob Newman (Roberts) wrote and recorded it in 1952. He sold the song, he sold a few for cash, to Lee Reichner (wrote Papa Loves Mambo) who then published it in his wife's name Marian B Yearnell aka Susan Heather.
