I had most of his albums and I remember in his My Spanish Heart LP there was a reference to his roots being Spanish, by vitrue of his father, and now I am hearing italian, which is not really an issue. But to be historically correct, Armando Corea is
not an Itaian name, and thru his My Spanish Heart, he obviously wanted to present his Spanish heritage, I would think. "Chick" is a short version for "Chico", as in the "Chico and the Man" tv series, used among Spanish people to refer to a Junior
descendant and differentiate him from his Elders. So Spanish heritage makes more sense to me. Nevertheless, he will go down in history as one of avant guard jazz contemporary players and composers of our time.
