I've been thinking about this lately - can anyone think of jazz musicians, orchestras or combos for which no recordings exist at all?
I have a few that came to mind:
Buck Clayton's 1934 orchestra, which was based in Shanghai
Eddie Barefield's orchestra from 1937 (?)
Earl Hines' 1943 orchestra which featured Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Sarah Vaughan
Benny Carter's 1942 sextet which had Gillespie and Jimmy Hamilton
Trumpeter Bobby Burnet's sextet in which he was the only Caucasian member and which (I think) included clarinetist Albert Nicholas (Burnet was with Charlie Barnet's orchestra)
I'm sure there are many others, but these were just a few I could think of.
