• Unintelligible lyrics

One thing that marks out recordings of songs from The Great American Songbook era was the ability to hear the lyrics.

These days, you can do (almost) anything with audio and one of the simplest is foregrounding the vocals but I'm amazed at how the lyrics in so many modern tracks are buried in the mix. Why do they do this????

Meaningless lyrics aren't worth hearing in the first place, so maybe they're lowering the level to avoid excessive boredom, or maybe, they've been
processed so many times over that something not intended might be heard at higher levels relative to the rest of the song ;)
