About the author: Pandit Shiv Dayal Batish Pandit Batishji's musical knowledge, and his skills in composing and singing, are a product of his 65 years as a singer, composer, and music director. He is also a multi-instrumentalist, fluent with harmonium, dilruba, and vichitra veena,
as well as vocal performance. He has had the honor to hear many of the
great singers of this century, and has earned the great respect of his
peers, including the Tansen award and "outstanding artist" recognition by
All India Radio. Many of his songs have been rendered by industry greats
such as Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Manna Dey, Usha Khanna, Talat
Mahmood, Geeta Dutt, Mohd. Rafi. Above all, he attributes his musical enlightenment to his guruji, Chandan Ram Charan of Patiala.
It is this extensive experience which infuses this work with creative and exciting music.

    About this project
Pandit Batishji has devoted the past twenty years to research on
Bhaaratiya Sangeet. He stumbled upon this colossal source of musical scales quite by chance when his son, Ashwin, was researching raagas for an earlier project, the reference manual Ragopedia - Exotic Scales of North India. Ashwin discovered books such as Raaganidhi, by Subho Rao, and Ragas of
North India, by Walter Kaufmann, and presented them to his father. Panditji became enthralled with the possibilities inherent in the Southern raagas. Today, after these twenty years, he has finally finished his quest. He has composed a song on every raaga of the Carnaatic system, totaling almost
    2500 compositions.
In this project, Panditji has sung each composition personally, thus giving them the ultimate expression. We are indeed pleased to have the ability
today to archive such a massive musical project, and present it to the
    world and to posterity.
