• Audio Brain Teaser

I produce two videos, both with 44.1 hz audio. @One has
standard-definition video, one has high-def. I upload the HD iteration
to YouTube. If the upload is HD, YouTube converts it to SD. When a
viewer plays it, they get an SD stream.

The question is: When converting from SD to HD, is YouTube converting
the *audio* to a lower level of precision? I see no reason for that: If
the concern is file-space, the roadhog in an HD would be the stream.

I've uploaded an SD and HD, as indicated above. I downloaded both from
the YouTube site. I pulled out the audio stream and could tell no
difference, but my tools/analysis is limited.

I can hear no difference in the audio when played back online. A
friend referenced them and believes the HD version was brighter--but he
had already argued that conversion diminishs the audio, so he's clearly
    biased.

    Any thoughts on this?
