Is there a recording of the Avery Fisher show? It was really magical.

Ani DiFranco, Gillian Welch & Greg Brown Join Forces
for an Evening of Acoustic Music

A quick quiz in these game-show-crazy times: Take three of the most revered acoustic artists of the 1990s, plop ‘em down on the same stage on the same night at the beginning of a new decade, and what have you got? “An evening to
remember” is the obvious, if somewhat predictable, answer we had in mind. (We’ll also accept “a night of singin’, finger-pickin’, laughin’, talkin’,
story-tellin’, and more,” although we must caution you that that description
would cover the average episode of “Hee-Haw,” too.)

What supernatural forces have conspired to bring Ani DiFranco, Gillian Welch, and Greg Brown into such close proximity for two weeks in March? Well, the main
idea comes courtesy of Ani D, who has been a good friend of Greg B’s for years
and a big fan of Gillian W’s for just about that long. Step one was the Little
Folksinger deciding to venture out into the wilderness without her beloved band
for her first solo tour in many years. Playing alone again is always an intriguing challenge, sez Ani, “taking my new circumstance and going with it,
now that I’m not Solo Folk Girl anymore.”

On the other hand, heading out unaccompanied sounded a bit lonely, so Mister DiFranco decided to share the stage, in time-honored folk tradition. “Greg Brown and Gillian Welch came up because I thought it would just be so incredible to be on the road with a couple of my favorite acoustic musicians,”
Ani says. “It’s gonna be real different for all of us.”

And so it is that four fine musicians (that’s counting Gillian’s touring partner David Rawlings, himself a top-notch guitarist and co-writer) will be crisscrossing the country for a spring tour which promises to be as intimate as
a campfire weenie roast, minus the mosquitoes and the marshmallows.
