CHART TIME! :
-------------
(* - my current favourites)
(!!! - Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
40 (27) FALLER : Joshua Kaddison - Jessie
39 (24) FALLER : Pizzaman - Sex On The Streets
38 (22) FALLER : Loveland & Rachel McFarland - Don't Make Me Wait
37 (23) FALLER : Michelle Gayle - Freedom
36 NEW ENTRY : Human League - Filling Up With Heaven *
The third single from the gold-selling "Octopus", which I've only heard once so far, but I don't think it's powerful enough to go as high as the previous two singles.
35 (21) FALLER : Celine Dion - Only One Road
34 (19) FALLER : Dodgy - Staying Out For The Summer '95 *
33 (25) FALLER : Dr. Dre - Keep Their Heads Ringin'
32 (26) FALLER : Jimmy Somerville - Hurt So Good
31 NEW ENTRY : The Bluetones - Are You Blue or Are You Blind?
30 NEW ENTRY : Judy Cheeks - As Long As You're Good To Me/You're The Story
Of My Life
29 (20) FALLER : Montell Jordan - This Is How We Do It
28 NEW ENTRY : Paula Abdul - My Love Is For Real
27 (17) FALLER : Reef - Naked *
26 (18) FALLER : Livin' Joy - Dreamer
25 NEW ENTRY : Duran Duran - White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)
Hmmm...only heard them do this one on "The Word". I think I'll pass.
24 (9) FALLER : Black Grape - Reverend Black Grape
23 NEW ENTRY : Bitty McLean - We've Only Just Begun :O ===
Bitty rips apart another classic song and turns it into a bleeding pile of mush. The video isn't much better with 'Bitty' prancing about his new pad with some girl, proclaiming "We've Only Just Begun" again and again.
Karen Carpenter must be turning in her grave...
22 (11) FALLER : McAlmont And Butler - Yes *
21 (15) FALLER : Ladysmith Black Mambazo & China Black - Swing Low Sweet Chariot
20 (13) FALLER : Nightcrawlers - Surrender Your Love
19 NEW ENTRY : Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart *
Now released in an apparently remixed form, but it's as hard to tell which bit
has been remixed as it is to 'spot the difference' in an exceptionally hard 'spot the difference' competition.
And surprise surprise, "Permanent", another Best of Joy Division album is released soon.
18 (16) FALLER : Annie Lennox - A Whiter Shade of Pale
Oh dear. Ms. Lennox rips apart another song, and this time it's the timeless classic from Procol Harum. Her voice just isn't strong enough to carry a song like this. Bring the original back to the charts please!!
And just what ARE the lyrics about? :)
17 NEW ENTRY : Chemical Brothers - Leave Home
16 (8) FALLER : Ali Campbell - That Look In Your Eye *
15 NEW ENTRY : Outhere Brothers - Boom Boom Boom
14 (10) FALLER : Billie Ray Martin - Your Loving Arms *
13 NEW ENTRY : Edwyn Collins - A Girl Like You * !!!
It's one thing for dance records to be released, sell sod all copies, then
be re-released a few months later and be smash hits.... but for a track that's
actually worth re-releasing to be a big hit..and actually BEING a big hit
is another thing. This is an absolute classic and deserves to be heard 10 times in a row...at least.
And he was in Orange Juice in the early 80's which spawned one of my all-time favourite songs "Rip It Up" in 1983. :)
12 NEW ENTRY : East 17 - Hold My Body Tight :O ===
Crap. Next.
11 NEW ENTRY : Wet Wet Wet - Don't Want To Forgive Me Now
A more poppy effort from the Wets, but not much cop.
10 (14) CLIMBER : Jam & Spoon featuring Plavka - Right In The Night
Re-release and re-mix time for Jam & Spoon with this dance record which was
a hit last year (around the same position as this entry). Their last (and much better) chart hit was "Find Me" which reached No.37 in mid-September last year.
9 (6) FALLER : Perez "Prez" Prado & His Orchestra - Guaglione *
8 (5) FALLER : Scatman John - Scatman (Ski-Bass-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)
7 (12) *HIGHEST CLIMBER - unfortunately* : Whigfield - Think Of You
6 (7) CLIMBER : Bon Jovi - This Ain't A Love Song
Another Bon Jovi song, another bag of shi.. hang on, I said the same thing earlier about Whigfield, but it's true. Bon Jovi's songs have become about
as inspiring as watching paint dry, but sadly they still sell. Can't think why though.
5 (3) FALLER : Michael & Janet Jackson - Scream
Oh dear. After all the hype, and the record bosses reckoning on it going straight to No.1, Wacko Jacko's comeback has been thwarted by releasing such a shit record. It's not even a proper duet as Jacko squawks all the way through,
and then in the middle somewhere it goes slow, and Janet says about how she "turned on the TV and was disgusted by all the injustice...".
I've never heard 'disgusted' rhymed with 'injustice' before.
And to cap it all, the single contains a track called "Childhood" from the film "Free Willy 2", as if one wasn't enough...
4 (4) NON-MOVER : Baby D - (Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime)I Need Your Loving
I've heard this now, and my worst fears are confirmed. How anyone can take a song like this and give it the dance music treatment is beyond my comprehension.
It's just like what M-Beat did to Anita Baker's Sweet Love, in that they basically sing the song as normal, but have a pointless dance beat (EXACTLY the same as M-Beat's!!) over the top of it. Still the female singer's a babe :)
3 (2) FALLER : Pulp - Common People *
This and "Do You Remember The First Time" are the best songs I've heard from Pulp, and it's this one that's catapulted them into the big time. Let's hope their follow-ups can do as well. The video for this one features Brit-babe Sadie Frost who recently starred in the British film about joyriding called "Shopping" alongside Jude Law (ITV's Children's Ward - I think) and Jonathan Pryce, and she also hit the Hollywood big-time in "Bram Stoker's Dracula"
as the sister of Winona Ryder.
2 *HIGHEST NEW ENTRY* : U2 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me *
Just when you thought this was going to be a cover of Gloria Estefan's "Hold/ Thrill/Kiss Me", gladly it's not. Taken from the soundtrack of the third Batman
film "Batman Forever", released July 14th in cinemas, and stars a different Batman (Val Kilmer), and has a different director (Joel Schumacher). Also starring are Jim Carrey as the Riddler, Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face,
Chris O'Donnell as Robin and Nicole Kidman as the love interest.
Soundtrack album released Monday 12th.
1 (1) NON-MOVER : Robson Greene and Jerome Flynn - Unchained Melody/
White Cliffs of Dover * 5TH WEEK AT No.1 *
Again :(
