I've had this synth since 1993 and now when I turn it on (about once
every 2 years) I have to run a factory reset in order for it to play
anything but the Grand Piano. It has an internal battery that's almost certainly dead. The manual recommends taking it to your Korg dealer
every 5 years for a replacement but I doubt if my local dealer knows how
to spell battery or Korg.
This morning I was looking for a way inside but decided not to try to
open it up without knowing which screws not to remove to avoid having
springs and keys flying all over the shop. Anyone here have advice (or a service manual)? Work at it from the bottom? From the top?
Another thing - It seems to want a normally closed sustain pedal, at
least as it is now. I only have a normally open one, rescued from a
Dictaphone, so it has only a SPST switch and there's nothing I can
rewire. Some synths have a setting for NC or NO pedal but I don't see
anything in the settings menu about it. The manual says nothing. I know
of some other synths that adapt to the pedal switch if you power it up
with the pedal depressed, but that trick doesn't work. This isn't a big
deal, but since I have a pedal laying around, I might as well make it
useful if I can.
I'd forgotten how arcane the menus are. Good thing I don't play it and
just use it for MIDI testing.
