I'm enjoying the way he balances the LH and RH, and lets the notes resound, to create interesting harmonies.

Interesting to contrast that with the Arrau I agree.

It's probably my favourite version alongside Lupu's (not sure which I like more as of yet) - I think he also ornaments less than Lupu which I seemed to prefer...

I don't like Richter, Brendel, Uchida, Sokolov, Arrau, Gieseking and others here... just listened a bit to Kempff... his trills are so god damn crude... I don't understand what Arri likes about Kempff...

And I think it's better than Volodos', much better... also the ornaments - my favourite version.

Would have to listen to his studio recording again and compare... maybe - in my estimation - Volodos is not so good after all, he is just too concerned with the texture and touch and pedal or sth; it drags in a way...

his D. 600 (I think it was) was very interesting... but same problem. I think he often sounds artifical - sorry.

In the light of this version I just don't like the other versions... I wonder what I would like if this version didn't exist, but I can't tell as it exists...

artificial is probably the wrong word... and his tone is really great... but there is no fun in his Schubert... he seems too concerned about not making "ugly" sounds (just like Celibidache never makes things sound "ugly"). There are moments I find Lupu's
playing a bit too harsh (as the "runners" in the beginning; looking at it from a different perspective, it also works in some way maybe...), but he is actually having fun; and the piano sonority is darker which I quite like... have to think about this a
    bit more...

should probably listen to Sokolov again... Richter, Brendel, Uchida, Arrau, Gieseking and Kempff are all worse imo than Volodos... and I am really unsure about Lupu because of the tone the more I think about it... but I liek the dark sonority of the
    piano.

*I also wasn't too impressed with Lupu's studio effort... ya definitely Volodos is better... and I was an idiot, but now I know a little more (partly thanks to Arri). It seems Volodos is my favourite here... and Volodos has fun with Schubert - but in a
different way. Sorry folks for the confusion.

I guess I always do it like this... I try to trash some of my favourite versions and see if they can handle it and prove me wrong.......
