• Death and death

    From Matthew B. Tepper@21:1/5 to All on Thu Apr 13 22:01:48 2023
A few weeks ago, word came (via Facebook, where I am presently active instead of on Usenet) that Tom Deacon, a long-ago ... contributor ... to this and perhaps other newsgroup, had come to the end of his life.

I have just noticed another death, which appears to have happened just over a week ago. This individual engaged in some ... lively ... discussions about the merits of Charlotte Church as an "opera singer."

    See obituary linked below:

    https://www.echovita.com/us/obituaries/tx/houston/james-murray-cate-16225508

I have no further comment, on either one of these passings.

What a pleasant surprise to hear from you! Had to look twice to make sure that your post wasn't written a decade or so ago.

Thank you to Andy, Henk, and Owen! I'm using my Google address because I no longer subscribe to the service(s) I had used for Usenet access, and the Gmail account costs nothing. I am well, happily married (ten years in June!), have a stepson in college,
and go to concerts and operas (usually the Metropolitan HD streams to our nabe) on a more or less regular basis.

I've pretty much moved all of my social media activity from Usenet and LiveJournal to Facebook, which has its problems but which at lets me interface with all my social groups at the same time. Although the idea of returning to a Deaconrein r.m.c.r. (and
    a Cate-free r.m.opera) is tempting....
