    To establish a baseline and to learn how
    this music should not be performed. The
    French call this "apprendre par fuire", as
    opposed to the conventional "apprendre
    par suivre". It helps focus the brain and
    develop critical listening skills.

    Or unimaginable. Like Klien or Brendull or Arrau.

    Dan, my good man. Congratulations on finding another german/austrian pianist to hate. Klien´s Liebestraum is to me perfectly adequate and I would be very interested in hearing your favourite performances of the old warhorse.

    or anyone else. To say a performance of some
    work is the worst I heard does not imply I "hate"
    the performer.

    I do not have a "favourite" in the sense of "one
    and only best trick" as promoted by Marc S.

    There are a few I like, and my preferences can
    and do change depending on wind direction,
    outside temperature, the phases of the moon,
    and the last drop of Scotch sipped.
