I love Ansermet. I love the quality of his Decca recordings. But more than that even, I love his repertoire, which is why choosing Ansermet is a shoo-in.

My father is considering a new round of "big box" purchases and asked which I'd choose between the two Eloquence Paray boxes and the Ansermet box that now seems a sure delivery in either March or April.

Ansermet now has a pretty friendly price at JPC of around $185 to the US for 88 CDs. That seems like a real price; Amazon still has listings for $300+. Meanwhile at Amazon, each Paray box runs around $85, with JPC clearly on unsure footing as far as
supply goes, where each box is 150 euros.

I'm apt to point to Ansermet as the better bet, but has anyone seen any info about how much of the box will be remastered? Some of it clearly will be (the Nutcracker has only one mastering under its belt since the dawn of the stereo era, if I'm not
mistaken). Also, I would probably benefit from a reminder of where the best place to order Eloquence boxes is.

    Thanks for the help.

I’m a Paray lover myself. Unlike Ansermet, I find Paray’s recordings becoming better with age. I think Henry Fogel has recently posted a long review of the Paray boxes in the Amazon reviews section, FWIW.

I'd go for Ansermet. A no brainer really, at least for me.

Buy it all, Paray and Ansermet! The to come Ansermet set
is just stereo recordings, hopefully a mono set comes out.
With Ormandy it was the mono set that came out with nearly
all the recordings newly transferred to CD. I've no idea
how many of the Ansermet are new to CD, if any.
