Bohuslav Martinu was definitely one who was identified as having Asperger's syndrome, which is a primary diagnosis of varying degrees of autistic severity. As some may know, Martinu was a full-on neo classical composer, with a very distinct and unique
sound palette. Einstein and Mozart were also said to be afflicted in some way.

I don't believe that for one moment. Beethoven is full of emotion, and a genuine heartfelt feel for music, not an "intellectual" one.

There will always be academics writing PhDs etc with a 'unique" view of history. This is quite likely one of them.

In any case it's all speculation.

It is a Dutch biography written by a certain Heijder, titled "Was Beethoven an Asperger?". Van Zweden and his wife (who have an autistic child) seem to agree.

As you say, it is all speculation. But do history and psychology know any form of truth other than probability?

This Heijder has no degree in psychology. He's a school teacher.
He claims to have asperger himself, and he likes Beethoven, so putting those two things together led him to conclude Beethoven had asperger.

Which could let me to conclude that Beethoven had a beard ;-)

Is it that simple? I can imagine that someone who is Asperger and recognises himself in a historical figure would want to investigate if there is a similarity.

Whether, as an Asperger, he needs to be a qualified historian and psychologist to do research is questionable. These days, much value is placed on experts by experience.

It is totally unclear to me what performers are supposed to do with the results. Is there any way to sing or conduct the "Ode an die Freude" in Asperger style?

Some succeed in doing that without Asperger ...
