    Why not?

Also, I still have a great many LPs, many of performances that haven't made it to CD, and I also have very good playback equipment to listen to those LPs.

The simplest answer is that many performances are not available in other formats, aside from transfers from LPs. Two that come to mind immediately are the Biggs Daquin Noels and the Bartok Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion led by Stokowski. In some
cases the early and only CD releases had butchered remastering and the LPs sound much better.

Discounting the Taylor Swift crowd who buy new vinyl because it's kewl, I do wonder about people with enormous quantities of LPs who still play them. You see, there haven't really been any new classical CDs for about 30 years, so their owners must either
play them very, very rarely or else cope with worn grooves, snaps, crackles, pops, etc. which, however carefully handled, LPs tend to acquire down the years. I dumped all my LPs simply because they were unplayable, but My Son The Trombonist was able to
create digital files from a couple of them that were not available as replacement CDs.
