I was at the concert - it was disappointing in the Schubert (not least because of the hard piano tone in the lower registers when he played louder) but somehow in the second half he found a way to control the piano better - and I loved the Kreisleriana.

Anyone know what the mystery piece is at the start of the second half?

Just FYI, that mystery piece starts at about 55:25... and it is way too "modern" for me, I couldn't listen for more than a few minutes, and I have no idea who composed the thing... but I will listen to the rest of this tomorrow...

No idea what the mystery piece is, but not knowing worked very well. (The piano less so.)
I liked his idea of listening in 'metaphorical darkness, without the protection of knowledge, preconception and expectation.'
RMCR is to a large extent devoted to the opposite, perhaps.

This also made me switch off the broadcast after a minute of Kreisleriana. It's different when one is in the hall, getting overwhelmed by the sound, but youtube is a format that strongly favors the 'protection of knowledge, preconception and expectation'
    - in this case, listening how this Kreiselriana stacks up against all the other Kreislerianas on offer.
This is why some RMCRers have protested the youtubisation of the group, which used to be a music discussion group.
