The VPO is a true Haydn orchestra,
unlike the BPO which is primarily a
    7B orchestra. ;-)

Thank you -- an elegant, but also exciting and powerful interpretation; a pleasure to listen to.
The faster, lighter variations (3, 5 and 6, I believe) and their contrast with the slower, heavier ones made me think of the Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky.
Very refined. Perfect, actually, in my opinion.

    Thanks for listening so promptly!

This version is considered by "many"
to be the finest one on record. I do
not entirely agree, however it is
indeed one of the finest ones.

    Szell's recording with Cleveland is
also often praised as "the best".
To my ears, am ideal version
    would be somewhere in the
    middle: less boisterous than
    Bernstein, and less dry than
    Szell.

    Wow!

It was one of their signature pieces.
Martha has performed in duos with
quite a few pianists, however there
can be no question Nelson Freire
    was her best matching partner.

There didn't seem to be a problem, but if
Klemps is too heavy, I raise (or should I
    say, lower) you Norrington:

Any mention of Norrington, Marriner, Gardiner,
    Hogwood, Pinnock, Koopman, Bruggen, Biondi,
Goebel, etc... will trigger an instantaneous
    nuclear attack! ;-)
