It might be interesting if folks would share their
thoughts - whether about presents for various
holidays or birthdays, those that they got,
those they gave, wished they got, should have
given, shouldn't have given, etc...
With Holiday season upon us, I was wondering about examples of unusual
or special music related gifts. These could be ones we've received or
given - but those that are memorable for some reason.
Over the years I've received odd things - an Edison cylinder (not rare,
I checked), a recording of Classical Barbra (kind of interesting...) and
a box of complete Frescobaldi keyboard works (the theory being I already
have all the standard stuff).
Also noteworthy are the gifts that I've cherished: the fancy orange LP
set of the Gilels/Szell Beethoven (which started my Szell mania), the
Oiseau Lyre box of "Acis and Galatea" (which helped me appreciate
opera), and Dover editions of musical scores.
It might be interesting if folks would share their thoughts - whether
about presents for various holidays or birthdays, those that they got,
those they gave, wished they got, should have given, shouldn't have
given, etc...
Asking people to share their thoughts appears to be
somewhat frowned upon. Please get approval from
the thought police -- Herman, Melmoth and Gerard.

Are you building dossiers about the folks on this ng?
