  • How to download YouTube music and videos

    I thought it might be useful to post a couple of
    links to software packages that can download
    music and videoclips from YouTube.

    For the DIY crowd there is https://youtube-dl.org/,
    which is free open source running on Windows,
    MacOS, Linux, and practically every version of
    Unix as the program can be customized and
    built by the user. The possibilities are endless.
    As they say, "Light Assembly Required"! ;-)

    For the rest of us who cannot, or do not want to,
    or do not have the time to get our hands dirty,
    https://www.4kdownload.com/ provides and
    easy to use app that can download videos
    and music files, amd also extract the music
    from a video file. Very convenient and easy
    to use, The free version has some limitations
    on the number of concurrent downloads and
    the ability to download entire playlists and/or
    channels. There are paid subscription options
    at $10, $15 and $45. The main drawback is
    that one cannot fix the bugs oneself.

    Yes, and you have the option to add the snap, crackle and pops.

    For the Mac, an inexpensive option is PullTube, which will download
    from almost anywhere:

    ... and it is quite versatile. It can do many things, but I only download the audio from the videos.

    I was using youtube-dl, but noticed that the download speeds were slowing to a crawl; evidently there was throttling, so I switched to yt-dlp, and haven't had any issues. It uses the same set of commands as youtube-dl.
