From Gerard@21:1/5 to All on Fri Nov 25 15:50:03 2022
Recently I've bought 2 boxes (slipcases) with each 6 disks with
concertos from the "Vivaldi Edition" on the label 'naïve'. All of this
is very good, a lot of it is really excellent. And it is nowhere available.

More recently I bought 2 new disks from this edition with Le Concert de
la Loge and Julien Chauvin, violin:
Vivaldi: Concerti per violino VIII 'Il teatro'
Vivaldi: Concerti per violino X 'Intorno a Pisendel'

These 2 disks with Chauvin top them all, they are a real delight.
Excellent playing, excellent recording; and also interesting pieces,
more interesting than average Vivaldi, and many of them unknown.

These 2 disks are volume 63 and 69 of this splendid Vivaldi Edition.
Volume 69 was released last month. So this Edition is still alive.
The Edition started in 2000 and should have been completed in 2015, but
    is now at around 65 à 70%.
The plan is making recordings of all Vivaldi manuscripts present in the
Italian National University Library in Turin, 450 works. Basis of that collection is Vivaldi's personal collection of his own works. Many of
those works never were published or recorded before.
Naïve is still doing an excellent job here, with first class recordings
and an interesting mix of first class ensembles and soloists, some of
them unknown by me. All HIP of course.
The edition contains a lot of operas and other vocal works - but that's
not my cup of tea. Maybe others can comment on those.

A real surprise to me was the disk (in one of the slipcases) with flute concertos, played by Sébastien Marq with Ensemble Matheus -- very well
known works, straight to the top. Specially "La Notte", a favorite of
mine; I prefer the version for flute and bassoon, but this recording of
    it is a jewel.

Interesting, thank you. I'll be getting the Chauvin disc. This Pisendel may have been the Paganini of the early 18th century. Everybody was writing violin concertos for this fellow. There's even some speculation that Bach intended his violin solo works
for Pisendel - although these weren't pieces for public performance, I believe.
