Herman... let me help you think a bit more clearly: stop imagining things, but look for the obvious.

It's quite obvious that Dan wants you to listen in an unbiased way, which is why he keeps the pianist a secret - this is exactly the opposite of being manipulative...

OK, no mystery pianist this time. The performance reminded me of a French pianist on account of the unromantic approach and a certain nonchalance. I can't think of anyone else who would play the Scherzi like that, with the exception of ... (no names! <g>)

Going back to 2008 and earlier, one finds quite
a bit of discussion of Eunice Norton in this n.g.,
powered by incessant, relentless promotion of
her recordings by one Ed Jasiewicz, apparently
a student of hers. Listen, if you can afford the

OMG - it’s a girl! I know someone who has called
their son Eunice. It’s the only Eunice I have ever
known so I’d assumed all Eunices were male.
Going back to 2008 and earlier, one finds quite
a bit of discussion of Eunice Norton in this n.g.,
powered by incessant, relentless promotion of
her recordings by one Ed Jasiewicz, apparently
a student of hers. Listen, if you can afford the
time, and form your own opinions. I would
rank her below Slenczynska or Turdreck.

Here is one of the most grotesque and
    mechanical Chopin Preludes on record:

    Harsh tone, mechanical and metronomic.

She plays it like an etude. I could never

I don’t think I’ve ever heard any Eunice Norton.

    Oh well, so be it!

When I was 10 or 11 my parents subscribed to a Musical Heritage Society record-of-the-month club. My mother was a violin/viola teacher and classical music was essentially the only music played around the house. There were a couple of Ruth Slenczynska
records in there and I about wore the grooves out listening to them... so "her" versions of things were what I knew best, every freaking note, and these are the performances against which I judge every other performance. You think she isn't all that good,
and perhaps she isn't, but nevertheless, I will always have a very soft spot in my heart for her... and by the way, she is STILL playing!

I still have the MHS recording of Dvorak's 5th symphony, subtitled then as being the "New World Symphony"... apparently 4 others were discovered and this work was shuffled down to being his 9th symphony... but I don't have any details about how/why that
happened and am too lazy to research it.

You did not let me know if my guess was correct... but I will again speculate that I am right about von Karolyi being your mystery pianist because otherwise, you would have said so... He might be playing it a bit fast but he is more than capable of doing
that... in my opinion, of course. A terrific rendition... among many, many others.

I find it difficult to believe a
    genius like von Karolyi has
