I've decided to pick up a copy of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, and, not surprisingly, found there to be about a billion and one different recordings available. So, which are the really great ones?
I'm a relative newbie classical listener, so advice on "great!" vs. "just
ok" recordings is much appreciated. I've found the reviews on Amazon.com to be a bit helpful with this. You can usually get a bit of an idea from the various fans who write in with opinions. According to the reviews there,
the Brandenburg cycle by I Musici on Philips is toward the top of the list. What are your recommendations? ..and are there other similar resources on
the net for checking out various opinions from more experienced listeners than myself? (other than this newsgroup of course)
It's kind of difficult with this type of core repertoire that has been recorded *so many* times by so many different people. It's hard to know
which ones to shell out my money for and which ones to pass on. Any help appreciated.
