• SPEAKERS or HEADPHONES...

From MELMOTH@21:1/5 to All on Mon Oct 24 14:45:42 2022
I usually listen _at the same time_ on headphones (Sennheiser or Stax)
AND on my speakers (Heritage and Maganepan)...
This allows me to benefit from the finesse and the precision of the
headphones AND the amplitude of the speakers...The sound of the
headphones appears in front of the head, instead of being confined
between the ears !...Once the balance is reached, the listening is
*really exceptional*, you can trust me...

Are the Maganepans Trump's version of magnetic film speakers ?!?

No wonder you are so confused about music
and praise performances that cannot pass
muster on a single pair of headphones or
    speakers! ;-)

anything worth doing is worth doing to
excess. He ended up getting fired.

You really think I haven't tried this yet ?!?

As I suggested before, this is likely a special effect brought on by phase cancellation.

Maybe in your listening environment it sounds cool. But there is nothing objectively recommendable about it.

YT links are provided as a public service.
They provide audible evidence for one's
    points.

Obviously if one has time to listen at
leisure go ahead turn on your Jadis
800 and treat your brain to 500 V
from your STAXes -- this should
    provide some excitement and
    make even Arrau electrifying.

You might try wiring a 4-ohm speaker in series with a 6-ohm budget speaker, on each side. The effect of the better speaker fills in the holes left by the budget speaker. It has been proven oscilloscopically. Added to which, physical damping of the
cheaper speaker's case by perching atop them really heavy studio grade phones, has been additionally proven by audiometric ears to offset a tinge of resonance that caps a listening experience. finessed by slight tweaks of the midrange controls. to a
state of audio exotica. Tube gear is dangerous as the pleasure then becomes too great to bear.

They make absolutely the best stoves ever for escargots, cuisses de grenouille, moules et huîtres! Imagine them cooking slowly on the top
of those gold plated grilles, rocked gently by Tristan or Parsifal! One would of course need to use the finest audiophile grade butter -- but
that should not be a problem where you live!

Also highly recommended would be a turning frying pan:

I had a friend who had this kind of installation...
The first time he made me listen to it, I allowed myself to think that
the high frequencies left something to be desired...
He was obviously very offended, and showed me the curves, and all that

After a month, having finally trusted my absolute ear, he rented a van

Who announced him that the twetters were HS !...
