I liked the comment about erecting a butterfly fence around the garden. It is well known that their wings cause violent resonances to build up, affecting surface current flow along pure gold connectors.

Only time will tell the effect of butterfly wings.

Long ago, someone seriously suggested running a green magic marker around the outer edge of your CDs, to keep red photons from the player's laser from leaking out through the edges, or something like that.

That was eventually revealed to be a joke, but not before a generation
of cd buyers thought "why not?" and tried it, hopefully most doing so
without buying the special pen. Thanks, Sam Tellig and Stereophile!

A black layer would hgave obviously been more effective at blockig light
of any color from leaking out through the edges, so this was was clearly
    a joke.

Joke was on me last week. While visiting San Luis Obispo, I found a CD marked in exactly that way on one of my record store hunts. Fortunately, I caught it before I left town and the store was happy to exchange the disc for another.
