Episode #3 of ROOTS ROCK RADIO is now archived at https://www.mixcloud.com/dean-fiora/roots-rock-radio-1950s-rock-n-roll-episode-3/ Here's the playlist:
    1. RED RIVER ROCK, Johnny & The Hurricanes (1959)

    My top 10 instrumentals (1959)

    1. Peter Gunn Duane Eddy - 1959
    2. 40 Miles Of Bad Road ` Duane Eddy - 1959
    3.Teen Beat Sandy Nelson - 1959
    4. All Nite Long Robert Parker – 1959
    5. Jet Tone Boogie Jet Tones - 1959
    6. Red River Rock Johnny & Hurricanes - 1959
    7. Woo Hoo Rock-A-Teens – 1959
    8. Torquay Fireballs – 1959
    9. Theme From “A Summer Place” Percy Faith - 1959
    10. Crossfire Johnny & Hurricanes – 1959

    4. ONE HAND LOOSE, Charlie Feathers (1956)

My all time favorite rockabilly recording outside of Elvis and Carl

    6. I PROMISE TO REMEMBER, Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers (1956)

"Oolie bob a cow bob a cow bop a cow cow..."

MUCH better than the Jimmy Castor & Juniors original

    8. LAWDY MISS CLAWDY, Lloyd Price (1952)

Like some others reading this I guess,I too first heard "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" in the Elvis version

    11. WOULD I BE CRYING, The Flamingos (1956)

As featured in the movie "Rock,Rock,Rock". I read that the flip "Just For A Kick" was intended to be in the movie too but was jettisoned in the finished film

    14. DON’T HANG UP, The Orlons (1962)

The Orlons never charted here in the UK (no not even "The Wah-Watusi") but I believe "Don't Hang Up" was their biggest seller here

    16. PUT YOUR CAT CLOTHES ON, Carl Perkins (1957, unissued)

There were a LOT of great numbers left to moulder in the Sun Vaults--but very few matched the quality of this one. Carl at his very best!

    18. SEPTEMBER IN THE RAIN, The Royal Jokers (1957)

As far as I'm concerned this song is owned lock stock and teardrops by Ms Dinah Washington

    21. YOU’RE SO FINE, The Falcons (1959)

Only Uncle Ray stops this stone classic topping my 1959 favorites list

    25. THERE’S A MOON OUT TONIGHT, The Capris (1958 / 1961)

Very convoluted release history on this one--first out on Planet label in 1958 then on Lost Nite (!) BEFORE becoming the big hit on Old Town.......

So where does the "Trommers" release fit in? Is it too before Old Town or is it (as 45cat has it) AFTER the Old Town hit--and in 1961?

    30. PAPA-OOM-MOW-MOW, The Rivingtons (1962)

Always liked this one but the real classic for me is the wonderful flip "Deep Water"--graded 9 and #14 on my 1962 favorites list

    38. IT’LL BE ME, Jerry Lee Lewis (1957)

Very good flipside but the different take released on Jerry's album is better still IMO

    41. ROCK AROUND WITH OLLIE VEE, Buddy Holly & The Crickets (1957)

The LP version is easily the best IMO and was a Brunswick single over here

    42. I’VE HAD IT, The Bell Notes (1959)
Never liked this one. Disliked it when it was current and nothing has changed since

    43. PETER GUNN, Duane Eddy (1960)

My #1 favorite instrumental of 1959 (see No.1 above)

    45. ONE SUMMER NIGHT, The Danleers (1958)

I have this in the original 1958 Amp 3 label version as by "THE DANDLEERS"

    46. TUFF, Ace Cannon (1961)

Ace Cannon merely rejigged Bill Justis' 1958 "Cattywampus" (on which he played sax) and took the now retitled "Tuff" high in the charts
