When I listen to this show there's always a record or two that I really
dislike ("Anna Macora," this time), but there's also a record or two
that I never heard before and really like. This time it was "Tornado."
Last time it was JLL's "Break Up."

Originally on the tiny Doran label in Virginia before Roulette

    3. THIRTY DAYS, Chuck Berry (1955)

Here's a cover version from a highly unlikely source https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQSCkdGcA1w

    10. BOOK OF LOVE, The Monotones (1958)

This UK cover (that reached #8 in charts here) has to be one of the very worst covers ever!!

    32. ANNA MACORA, Oscar Boyd & The Calvaes (1959)

Have to disagree with Diane on this one that I like it quite a bit. There were dozens of copies of this in that Chess mountain we found in US warehouse that time. My copy just says "The Calvaes"

    38. DEDICATED TO THE ONE I LOVE, The Shirelles (1959 / 1961)

Still like their version better than the 5 Royales original

    41. POOR JENNY, The Everly Brothers (1959)

This is my favorite Everly record of 1959. Like it even better than "Til I Kissed You"

    44. LITTLE DEUCE COUPE, The Beach Boys (1963)

Amazingly NEVER issued here in UK as a 45rpm at the time

    47. DREAM LOVER, Bobby Darin (1959)

#1 for four weeks on the the UK NME chart here in July 1959

And 20 years later Rick Nelson remade it. I think his version is beautiful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBbbNz92Lso
