My question for Bruce is what makes the TV shows favorable viewing and the literary fiction yuk?

Two reasons I can think of are:
He doesn't have the imagination to picture a writer's depiction and prefers to have the depiction presented to him.

He doesn't have the attention span to devote more than an hour or two to a project.

I savor the extra time it takes to read a book and interpret the author's description.

Bruce can speak for himself, but here is some general info.

    1. FICTION: BOOKS v. TV

There are several reasons why some people may prefer watching fiction
on TV over reading it in books. One reason is that TV shows and movies
can be more visually engaging and immersive than books, as they can
use music, sound effects, and special effects to create a more dynamic
and captivating experience. Additionally, watching TV shows and movies
can be a more passive and relaxing activity than reading books, as it
requires less mental effort and can be enjoyed from the comfort of
    one's couch.
    https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2012/11/9/movies-books-harvard/

On the other hand, some people may find reading fiction books to be
more challenging or less enjoyable than watching TV shows and movies.
Reading requires more focus and concentration than watching TV, and it
can be more difficult to visualize the characters and settings
described in the book. https://digitalminimalism.com/reading-vs-watching-videos-what-science-says/ Additionally, some people may find that reading fiction books can be
more emotionally draining or less satisfying than watching TV shows
and movies, as they require more effort and investment to complete. https://thoughtcatalog.com/kovie-biakolo/2015/08/14-things-only-people-who-prefer-nonfiction-books-understand/
Ultimately, the choice between reading fiction books and watching TV
shows and movies is a matter of personal preference, and both mediums
have their own unique benefits and drawbacks. Some people may prefer
reading books because they enjoy the imaginative and intellectual
experience of reading, while others may prefer watching TV shows and
movies because they enjoy the emotional and visual experience of
watching a story unfold on screen.

    2. BOOKS: NON-FICTION v. FICTION

Some people prefer non-fiction books because they enjoy learning new
things and gaining knowledge about the world around them. Others
prefer fiction books because they enjoy the emotional and imaginative experience of reading a good story. Ultimately, the choice between
fiction and non-fiction books is a matter of personal preference, and
both genres have their own unique benefits and drawbacks. https://selfpublishing.com/fiction-vs-nonfiction/ https://wise-answer.com/what-do-you-prefer-reading-fiction-or-nonfiction/ https://lisanotes.com/5-reasons-to-read-nonfiction/ https://www.huffpost.com/entry/fiction-vs-nonfiction-whi_b_8908516 https://improvementbuddy.com/reading-fiction-vs-nonfiction-books-which-is-better/

"many non-fiction books are told with a strong narrative thread. They

    ---------
I don't know if you'll find this interesting or not, but as for me, I
don't read fiction *and* I don't watch fictional TV shows or movies. I
did when I was young but at some point in middle age I lost all patience
for fictional stories. You may protest "But you loved The Sopranos!"
That's true, but the reason I loved it was that the characters seemed so
much like real people. The scenes I liked best were not the action
scenes and certainly not the dream sequences, but the ones where the
characters were interacting with each other casually. I haven't had the patience to watch any other TV shows (dramas or sitcoms) since it went
off the air in 2007. They're all so contrived, and impossible for me to suspend my disbelief. I just watch documentaries and true-crime shows.

I did not notice that before. None of my DDD lists have anything to do with my personal favorites, and there is no list of TV shows.
I was afraid it might be the case that it wasn't a DDD list, but wasn't about to search.
Yes, we get it, the 45 seconds required to check on it was too big of a project for you to undertake.

Not too big. Not worth it.

Yes, why waste 45 seconds to make sure you are accurate. You could read a page of crime fiction with those 45 seconds instead.

Here is the relative to this discussion definition of project.

an individual or collaborative enterprise that is carefully planned to achieve a particular aim.

How does one think that reading a book is a project?

    -----------
Reading a book is a project if you're reading it and taking notes for research--like a student reading several novels to compare and contrast
them for a term paper, or a historian reading previous biographies of
his or her subject. Reading for pleasure is not a project.

    I has spoken.

Or if you are Bruce and have been asked to read a book. I believe Bruce's views on books are as mistaken as those on lyrics.
    -------
They're not his *views* on books. They're his *feelings* about books.
He hasn't read enough fiction to form views about it. He just knows he
    doesn't like it.

He's the same way about yogurt.
