• Rock & Roll Man On Broadway

From Bill B@21:1/5 to All on Thu Aug 10 05:16:13 2023
Went to see this yesterday. It was terrific, notwithstanding a melancholy stretch towards the end focusing on Alan Freed's decline.

None of the music was by the originals. All was sung by the superb cast to the accompaniment of an equally superb sound system.

I had last row seats in the mezzanine, but with an unobstructed view of the stage. It's such an intimate theater, I didn't have to use the binoculars I had brought.

It opened in June, but the theater was not sold out for the matinee. With the limited audience, I don't have high hopes it will enjoy an extended run.

There were some original musical numbers, which were passable, but here's the musical track listing of songs from our era, ranging from snippets to almost full songs:

    Sh-Boom
    Ready Teddy
    Good Rockin' Tonight
    Sixty Minute Man
    Rocket 88
    Money Honey
    Jim Dandy To The Rescue
    Lucille
    Sincerely
    Maybelline
    Good Golly Miss Molly
    Tutti Frutti
    Ain't It A Shame
    Long Tall Sally
    Tweedle Dee
    Peggy Sue
    Hey Bo Diddley
    Who Do You Love
    Roll Over Beethoven
    Yakety Yak
    See See Rider
    Great Balls Of Fire
Why Do Fools Fall In Love
    Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
    Rock And Roll Music

Many of the original LP covers were on display.

The highlight was the character playing Little Richard eviscerating the character playing Pat Boone. Hilarious!

I'd recommend anyone who can catch it while you can.
