• The story of Bo Diddley lyrics question

From Steve Mc@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jul 23 09:10:47 2023
In this song by The Animals, is the below mentioned an actual song by
Johnny Otis, or is this just some lyrics Eric wrote ?

And a white guy named Johnny Otis took Bo Diddleys rhythm
He changed it into hand-jive and it went like this
In a little old country town one day
A little old country band began to play
Add two guitars and a beat up saxophone
When the drummer said, boy, those cats begin to roam
Oh baby oh we oh oh
Ooh la la that rock and roll
Ya hear me oh we oh oh
Ooh la la that rock and roll

I have a sense of deja vu here. I think you asked this same question a
few years ago, and I think I answered you as Roger did here. Am I hallucinating, or did this actually happen?

I don't think so, though you may be right. You know what are memories
are like theses day. At least mine.

However, I did check my database thinking I didn't have it, but sure
enough, I do have it from May 2020, so that would fit into your memory timeline.

    So, thank you too.

Shit !!! Now I worried. 2 New York memories vs. 1 California one.

I guess it'd be virtually impossible to research.

    I've always wondered about this.
At the below point in The Animal's The Story of Bo Diddley, through
2:33... that can't be a Johnny Otis song, can it ? And assuming it
isn't. And if my assumption is correct, is it some other song, or is it
just a little thing that The Animals came up with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzNHrFneJhI#t=110s

They're saying he took the Bo Diddley beat and "changed it into 'Hand
    Jive,'" which AFAIK is correct.

I understood that part, but I guess I didn't word it clearly. I was
wondering about the lyrics that started right after him mentioning
Johnny Otis "In a little country town one day..."

Always loved "Crazy Country Hop" by the great Johnny Otis.
He and his entourage had several terrific singles on Capitol that
rarely get mentioned on here---besides "CCH" there's "Willie & The
Hand Jive" of course and the much under rated "Castin' My Spell" that
puts the Johnsons original in the shade

Thanks Bob for making me feel even older.
