Here's an idea for some contests. For each year, the nominations are the records included on the lists of favorites from anyone who posted lists, regardless of sales or chart positions.

    What say yee?

    Not Kate Bush or Adele?

Here's a ranked list of female British singers, Dusty is 13th.

    https://www.thefamouspeople.com/british-women-singers.php

I'd take Pet Clark over Dusty, and as far as the best "singer" from there, it's probably Amy Winehouse, who is top 10 on that list.

This was big on the UK club circuit at that time and was long thought to be a UK recording (some folk even swore that young Steve Winwood featured on the record).
Things were straightened out when it was discovered that---despite their name---The Anglos were a US outfit and "Incense" was recorded for the Orbit label of New Jersey

    85. I Love You So - Tommy Louis
I guess he was also known as Kid Thomas?

Yep this guy was Kid Thomas of "Rockin' This Joint Tonite" fame (that record just missed my 1960 Top 120 as posted). Later in the 60's he recorded two records for Muriel label as "Tommy Louis". Sadly he came to a grisly end in 1969 when he accidentally
knocked down and killed a kid whilst driving his truck. He was accused of manslaughter and whilst leaving the building the kid's father was waiting for him outside and shot him dead

    110. Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan

I had heard that this version was Dylan's most favorite of all his sings
    done by others.

    Bard says:

Bob Dylan was a huge fan of Elvis Presley, and he was particularly fond
of Elvis' cover of his song "Tomorrow Is a Long Time." In an interview
with Rolling Stone in 1985, Dylan said that Elvis' version was "the one recording I treasure the most." He went on to say:

"I heard Elvis' version of 'Tomorrow Is a Long Time' when it first came
out, and I was just blown away. It was so beautiful and so moving. I
couldn't believe that he had taken my song and made it into something so special. It was like he had taken my heart and put it into a song. I've
never heard anything like it before or since."

Dylan also said that Elvis' version of the song helped him to understand
his own songwriting better. He said:

"When I heard Elvis' version of 'Tomorrow Is a Long Time,' it made me
realize that my songs could be more than just folk songs. They could be something that people could really relate to, something that could touch
their hearts. Elvis showed me that my songs could be more than just
words on a page, they could be something that could change people's lives."

Oh thank goodness I've posted lists over the years, to give folk a
wide choice from each genre that was popular during the period.

Otherwise the options would be somewhat dominated by Black music,
with token mentions of White and Hispanic music, due to the mindset
(influenced by personal background) of half+ of regular newsgroup

"THE Boston Monkey" from the Manhattans is from 1965

The Major Lance written "Boston Monkey" by Billy Butler is from 1966 (and is the flipside of "The Right Track" which was---and still is---an ENORMOUS Northern Soul favorite over here)

I don't get the fuss people make over her.
One of her very best records by the best UK born femme popular singer of the age
That's like being the best Chinese cook from the Congo.

    Not Kate Bush or Adele?

I did say Dusty was "the best UK born femme popular singer OF THE AGE".........

That said I still rate her stuff tops now. Just a few moments of Kate Bush gives me a severe headache and Adele does less than zero for me

I'd take Pet Clark over Dusty, and as far as the best "singer" from there, it's probably Amy Winehouse, who is top 10 on that list.

Pet's 50's stuff was mostly inferior versions of minor US hits that were'nt very good to start with . Stuff like "Alone" and "With All My Heart". What changed it all for her was "Downtown" in 1964 one of the best pop songs of the time and a record that
is not very far off making my 1964 Top 100

in the south of England !

    exceptions:
#4 Ellie Goulding - Hereford (middle England)
    #7 Rita Ora - Yugoslavia
    #11 Sade - Nigeria
#15 Christine McVie - Lancashire (north England)
    #18 Lulu - Scotland
    #20 Natalie Imbruglia - Australia

36 ¦ I Fought The Law ¦ Bobby Fuller Four

I liked this one too but I still prefer The Crickets version. I always wondered why that one wasn't a single over there as it was here

53 ¦ Sitting In The Park ¦ Billy Stewart

Great record! Sadly Billy lost out over here to a homegrown cover from Georgie Fame that took Top 20 honors in the UK

    243 ¦ Concrete And Clay ¦ Unit 4+2

Now here's a UK-born record I really liked. It just missed my list but I mention it just to show I did like a few of the local recordings from that time

Notwithstanding that this tune has easily its best ever version in the original 1949 Anton Karas recording I don't get this big thing with Herbie. I've heard most of his singles of course---sweet little throwaway pop tunes that do nothing for me I don'
t understand their appeal to you???

I don't like the Karas at all, but this one is a killer, one of my 10 favorite instrumentals of all time. I consider the TJB to be like the Glenn Miller of the 1960s. Much more accessible versions of jazz like music for the general public. They were the
first act to have 4 albums in the top 10 the same week on Billboard's LP chart, which now has also been done by Taylor Swift. Chubby Checker once had 5 albums in the top 15.

36 ¦ I Fought The Law ¦ Bobby Fuller Four
I liked this one too but I still prefer The Crickets version. I always wondered why that one wasn't a single over there as it was here

The Crickets is a 7, but this is a 9 for me. Much more energy.

53 ¦ Sitting In The Park ¦ Billy Stewart
Great record! Sadly Billy lost out over here to a homegrown cover from Georgie Fame that took Top 20 honors in the UK

Listening to the Fame. What a disgrace, they use horns and flutes rather than background singers. It's not that bad though. He sings it better than I expected.

    243 ¦ Concrete And Clay ¦ Unit 4+2
Now here's a UK-born record I really liked. It just missed my list but I mention it just to show I did like a few of the local recordings from that time

But no real mersey beat stuff.

Prince had 5 albums in the top *10*....although he had to die to do it.
