I only liked the real frenetic records, did not like the later pop stuff after she left Ike.I agree with that. I once saw the Ike and Tina Turner Reviiew at
Basiin Street West, San Francisco in 1969. It was a great show.
Someone on the news was telling a story about an interview Ike gave
later in his life. Ike said that in the 1950s he was writing songs he
needed someone like Little Richard to sing. When he met Tina, he said,
"Tina was my Little Richard."
This struck me as an extremely odd thing to say, but I guess it makes
sense from a business point of view. Maybe. I don't know.

Rough voices, turning the volume up, shouting as a form of singing, lots of body movement, a grounding in the rough edges and near-hysteria of a lot of the emotional highs gospel often reaches for, etc. I'm sure Ike telling Tina to imitate Little Richard (plus the live gospel she would have heard in church) had a lot to do with Tina's singular "frenetic" early style. As a CCR fan, I think her verson of "Rollin' On The River"

It's nothing special. My all time favorite Ike & Tina is the scorching "A Fool In Love" but
"River Deep...." is well up there in my bunch of I & T ffaves
following that one and is also one of Spector's best productions
I can understand him being miffed when the record didn't do that well
on the US charts failing to reach anywhere near the chart heights it achieved here in UK
even like the Supremes/Tops hit version a little better.Pale shadow of the classic original

I assume you know that "Rollin On The River" is not the actual title, but just
part of the chorus?

Because in the case of the Ike & Tina record I am voicing my (long

To me the Spector version is totally overdone and over the top, trying too = >hard to make something new and different and dazzling.
Some people feel the ame way about "Good Vibrations." Given your major preference
for the oldr sound, I would think you might be among those who frowned on attempts to
make real progressive music and get away from that older sound. Why would your opinion, as one person, be relevant, but the opinion of the entire American public not be relevant?
