Juke Box Baby - Perry Como
Como was always one of the more acceptable pop artists in my
book--Iiked many of his records including this one and the more famous
topside "Hot Diggitty" (that would probably have given him a #1 hit
here in UK had there not been no less than three local competing cover versions).
Ready Teddy - Elvis
Can't remember the last time I played any of the Elvis/Richard numbers
("Long Tall Sally","Ready Teddy","Rip It Up") that languish near the
bottom of my 1956 list
Don't Forbid Me - Pat Boone
One of Boone's better numbers and a 7 on my list. Hit #1 in the US and
#2 in UK
You Can't Catch Me - Chuck Berry
This was the little 11 year old Roger's first encounter with Chuck
Berry on the screen and as I've mentioned here before a performance of
this great number (in the "Rock Rock Rock" movie) that left him
gobsmacked.
And a fervent fan from that moment on

Tonight's The Night - Bill Haley & Comets
Never one of my Haley favorites this twee little number closes the
"Rock 'N' Roll Stage Show" LP
Ain't That Loving You Baby - Eddie Riff
Good original of the number that Elvis revived in an even better
version IMO in 1958 that became a hit single in 1964
I Ain't Gonna Waste My Time - Don Gibson
Original 1956 version of the 1958 country rocker by Wiley Barkdull.
Song is written by "Jay" Miller he of Excello Records fame who also
penned the lyrics for "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels"
Ubangi Stomp - Warren Smith
Big bone of contention back when was "who had the best version of this
one?". Me,I was always in the Jerry Lee camp
Rockin' Through The Rye - Bill Haley & Comets
One of Haley's more contrived numbers but one I always liked and still
a surprisingly solid rock 'n' roll performance. One of his biggest
hits here in UK. "Gang a wild gang a wild go man go!!"
Everybody's Rockin- Werly Fairburn
Mild country rocker that was his last outing on Columbia. A few months
later in 1956 Werly would appear on Grandpa Herman's Savoy Records
with the better "All The Time"
Ka-Ding-Dong - G-Clefs
Sprightly catchy doowop rocker that attracted cover versions from both
The Diamonds and The Hilltoppers. I'll stick with the original!
Smoke Stack Lightning - Herby Joe
Not the same song as the Wolf classic. All I know is that I like it
and that it was recorded in Chicago, reputedly has Wayne Bennett on
guitar and a 78 of it soild for ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS a few years
back!!
