• Most virtuoso performance seen live

From Steve Mc@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jan 16 11:00:51 2023
It could be a vocal performance, either group or solo, a performance on
a particular instrument, a sublime harmony, whatever.

The most virtuoso performance I ever experienced on an instrument was
Paul Butterfield at the Fillmore West on the harmonica c. 1969.

I saw Lightnin' Hopkins at the Lone Star Cafe and I was standing only about 5 feet from him watching his fingers on the guitar all night.

The Spaniels UGHA luncheon with 4 of the 5 original members.

Five Keys UGHA Hall Of Fame Induction - Close Your Eyes

Solitaires at UGHA - The Angels Sang

Revels at UGHA - Dead Man's Stroll

Well, I can at least corroborate that those live fingers translated very
    well onto vinyl.

The Motown groups were always absolutely flawless in their singing and
    dancing. Supremes, Temptations, Miracles.

Ray Charles at Carnegie Hall, sometime in the early 60s, in a midnight show that went on until well after three. The audience was pretty evenly split racially, and everyone got into it in a big way, including Ray, and it ended
up feeling like the best revival meeting ever.

In the summer of 1995, I attended the first annual Newport Rhythm & Blues Festival in Rhode Island. Opening the the show were the Five Blind Boys of Alabama with original lead singer Clarence Fountain. They performed a ten-minute version of "If I Had a
Hammer" that would have made Peter, Paul & Mary blanche a paler shade of white. Not sure if that was THE most virtuoso performance I ever saw live, but it was damned sure one of them!
