Dear community,
I'm searching for the english translations of the german "Satz" and "Fortspinnungstyp". These terms are used in german music theory, they
discribe different types of structures of melodies, like the "Periode",
which is in english "period", as far as I know.
A typical example for a "Satz" are the first 8 measures of Beethoven's
piano sonata op.2 Nr. 1, and most of the melodies and themes in the
music of the late barocque times are written in the kind of "Fortstpinnungstyp". The first 11 measures of Bach's Violin Concerto BWV
1024 (see at
http://imslp.org/wiki/Violin_Concerto_in_E_major,_BWV_1042_%28Bach,_Johann_Sebastian%29
) are a typical example.
How would these kinds of melodies be described in the english language?
