At times I felt the light of other music besides [his jazz-loving stepfather] Walter's. The Beatles fired my imagination in a limitless way, triggering all kinds of cinematic narratives in my mind. I was scratching the surface of another world of music,
but I didn't separate it out as such. I loved the Beatles, I loved Charlie Parker. Good music was good music.
