"I thought I Could Free You"
For JBW
By R.A.G. Seely
I thought I could free you
From a life aimless
Re'lize a rescue
My faith, fallacious
I thought I could free you
From low self-esteem
Reveal your value
It was a pipe dream
I thought I could free you
From rusticity
From vapid venues
My hope, heresy
I thought I could free you
From twerps, simpletons
You mistook my cue
You were too far gone
I thought I could free you
From profanity
That I'd get you to
Regain dignity
I thought I could free you
From a boor's embrace
Author a breakthrough
If only I'd raced
I thought I could free you
From cretins cornfed
Your sense was askew
My logic, misled
I thought I could free you
From spiraling down
Devoid of virtue
In trashy hick-towns
I thought I could free you
From wretchedness, waste
My trust was untrue
My purpose, misplaced
I thought I could free you
From barbarism
You uttered "Adieu"
And succumbed to scum
