It's such a sprawl of an album, my ranking of the songs would vary a lot from day to day. Except for the handful of duds as the bottom.

I should have said "rates" instead of "ranks."

Immediate F for Rev 9, of course.

And she did give it an "F," although other than that appropriate grade (I never bought any of that BS about R9 having a "meticulous classical structure") I don't agree with Caroline's ratings much.

No, me either. My favorite song on the album (Savoy Truffle) she doesn't even like. She is clearly more of a McCartney fan than any of the other guys, mainly Paul's more melodic stuff, although her favorite song on the album was from George.

Liking (or tolerating) R9 or not is one thing, but I do find most of her analyses rather shallow.

Don't know why I bother watching really. But I do seem to anyway ....

I mean, she seems like a nice person. But she's rating these songs not on their merits or demerits but on how much she wants to hear them all the way through. Why should anyone care about that?

Nothing wrong with rating them that way. She's rating them for HER OWN TASTE, not as a critic who is telling other people what to listen to. If you don't care then stop watching the video when you learn how she's rating them.

I was most surprised with "I Will" as an "S". I expected maybe a "B". I listened to it then and it *is* catchy. I think she underrated "Happiness Is a Warm Gun," but maybe since it's how likely she is to skip it, she seems to go for the catchy melodies.

But why is it needed? What's wrong with A+ being the highest rating. If you want something above that why not A++?

Nothing is 'needed' - it's just one of her things. Just like some of her
wacky 'likes' and 'dislikes', and everything in between.

Her distinction of S as opposed to her A-whatever is that she'd *never*
skip it. Others like you and I might accord that status to an A or whatever.

If I felt the need to rank tracks I would use never (or seldom) skip,
sometimes skip, often skip, or always skip.

Caroline obviously prefers Paul's stuff on this album. But I remember John saying something like Paul resented his stuff on the White Album because it was better than Paul's. I think John and Paul were close to being 'different but equal' again as
far as songwriting quality. Paul does more of a mix for sure, but John-s songs are mostly really good, even if Caroline doesn't seem to think so.

I don't think so either. Some of John's songs on this album are very good, but others are just so-so, and Rev 9 is an atrocity.

Here are the songs from the album that are among my 100 favorites by the band.

    15. Savoy Truffle
    31. Glass Onion
    43. Revolution I
    59. Back in the U.S.S.R.
    60. Birthday
    64. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
    81. While My Guitar Gently Weeps

And these are just not good IMO

    Wild Honey Pie
    Piggies
Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey
    Sexy Sadie
    Long, Long, Long
    Revolution 9

I wouldn't call Piggies, EGSTHEFMAMM, Sexy Sadie 'not good'. And Long
    Long Long not bad either.

    So we disagree.
