80 years of Paul McCartney! One afternoon six years ago I was playing at the Friars Club when Paul McCartney walked in to have brunch. He sat just a few feet from the piano and spent so much of his time during his meal giving me big smiles, waves, winks
and double thumbs ups. At the end of his meal he came over to the piano and engaged me in an incredibly special conversation. In addition to shaking my hand and thanking me for the music four separate times, he shared with me that my music that day
brought back great memories of his father, who he said played similar songs when he was growing up. He asked me quite a few questions about my background and came across as one of the kindest, most sincere and least egotistical people I’ve ever met. Iâ€
™ve met many less successful people with much bigger egos than he, and being that he is definitely the most famous person I’ve ever met, that made a huge impression on me. He’s obviously one of the most gifted musicians of all-time, but my takeaway
that day was that there must be a correlation between his small ego and his incredible success. That was one of the most special and impressionable experiences I’ve ever had. Happy Birthday Paul McCartney! And many thanks for your inspiration - that
day and always.
