Geoffrey Stokes, who wrote for the Village Voice, was a Lennon fan who found Double Fantasy disturbing. He wrote a review of DF titled "The Infantilization of John Lennon" and said that the love celebrated on DF is one that "doesn't involve or permit a
functioning, adult John Lennon."
He summarized the album as follows: "Vampire-woman-sucks-life-out-of-man-who-enjoys-every-minute-of-his-destruction."
