• Suppose You Were In Jack Douglas' Shoes...

From Norbert K@21:1/5 to All on Sat Apr 30 06:28:48 2022
Suppose you had the right connections and John Lennon asked you to produce his comeback album. He presented you with his DF demos. What would your advice have been? What would you have done differently from Jack Douglas?

I'd express great enthusiasm for "I'm Losing You" and "Watching the Wheels." I'd say, "Let's record these two," and suggest to John that, while he was away from the studio, he ought to continue writing.

By whatever means necessary, I'd keep Yoko off the album. I might make an appeal to her narcissism: "Yoko, your songs are so great that they deserve an album of their own."

A double album (keeping with the "Double Fantasy" theme) would've been
good -- all of John's songs on one LP and Yoko's on another. I doubt
John would've went for it though -- he was under the delusion everyone
else must appreciate both of them equally since he did.

Or just different track sequencing, a killer side 1 would've been:

    (Just Like) Starting Over
    I'm Losing You
    Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)
    Watching The Wheels
    Woman

Then for side 2 lead off with Cleanup Time, I'm Moving On and Dear Yoko,
then put all of Yoko's stuff after that.

For me it's strictly 1,3,5,6,7,8,10,12 whenever listening to DF.

I've mentioned before I find Yoko's contributions on Milk & Honey much
more tolerable and don't mind listening to it straight through.
